SLCF provides capacity building on land management and works with local herders to increase their tolerance towards predators through various community based conservation programs, such as Snow Leopard Enterprises, Livestock Insurance Schemes, and predator-proofing of corrals. In counterpart the community enters into an agreement with SLCF to protect snow leopards and other wildlife within their responsible areas called community responsible area (CRA), through actions to reduce threats such as poaching and to promote pro-conservation practices.

SLCF plans to support certain communities in developing community monitoring strategies.   We also plan to build the capacity of identified herders in wildlife monitoring within their CRA’s.

Community members are also be supported in data collection processing and analysis in order to monitor the status of wildlife within CRAs. This valuable information is fed into SLCF/SLT/PA monitoring data sources to assess the effectiveness of CRA and shared/discussed with the communities.
